Top 3 Irrigation Problems We Find & Fix During Sprinkler Spring Start-Up
As winter comes to a close, it’s time to schedule your Sprinkler System Spring Start-Up appointment (unless you are already one of our valued Plus Program or Basic Program clients, which includes convenient automatic scheduling!). A major part of Spring Start-Up is sprinkler system repair, where we get your system in shape for the season. Here are the top three problems we find and fix:
- Rain sensor isn’t working
- One or more sprinkler heads aren’t working
- Sprinkler heads that don’t retract
Start-Up Sprinkler System Repair #1: Rain Sensor Isn’t Working
Especially in the wet spring months, a rain sensor is an important part of your sprinkler system. It saves you money and prevents your lawn from getting too much water– but only if it’s operational! Typically, if the rain sensor isn’t working, the batteries need to be replaced. This simple fix is easy to do during Irrigation Spring Start-Up. We expect these batteries to last one or two years, so the spring is a good time to change them.
Start-Up Sprinkler System Repair #2: Sprinkler Heads that Stopped Working
Rotating sprinkler heads can sometimes wear out, due to repetitive motion on the gears. When they stop rotating, it’s time to replace them. We check for this sprinkler system repair as we test your system. We replace any heads that have stopped rotating.
Start-Up Sprinkler System Repair #3: Sprinkler Heads that Don’t Retract
Pop-up sprinkler heads are supposed to retract flush to the ground. Along with being unsightly, sprinkler heads that remain up are likely to be broken by mowers or foot traffic. During Spring Start-Up, we replace any of these malfunctioning sprinkler heads.
These three common sprinkler system repairs are easily fixed during Spring Start-Up. Other problems might be more involved and require a follow-up visit. After a rough winter, we may find some leaks or disruption in your system, although this isn’t typical. Slow leaks can be difficult to identify during Spring Start-Up, which is why we recommend a Summer Cycle & Inspect each year.
